NUJABES
It saddens me today to report the loss of my good friend Jun Yamada, known to the world as Nujabes. Early in the morning on Friday February 26 he passed away after a car accident. Out of respect for the privacy of his family the news isn’t breaking until today. I learned of his passing a little over a week ago. Jun is single handedly responsible for my career as a solo artist, including officializing my stage name Pase Rock. up until then I didn’t really have a moniker. We recorded a lot of music together over the years and he released my only solo album Bullshit As Usual in 2003. I spoke to him on the phone just a few days before his passing and we made plans to have dinner while I was visiting Tokyo. Unfortunately he passed the same day that I arrived. His studio remains one of my favorite places on this planet, filled with music and serenity. I was glad to get a chance to visit and pay my respects. Jun taught me a lot about life and living. The conversations we had and ideas that we shared are ones I don’t think I could ever have with anyone else. Jun was filled with a wonderous energy and had a deep love for life and music that is unmatched. While we continue to respect the privacy of his family, we will keep working to extend his legacy and celebrate his prolific catalog.
