PARRA takes you on a tour with iNCASE and ARKITIP

Parra is an Amsterdam based “Creative”. That’s what the marketing types are calling them these days. He paints, draws, illustrates, makes music with his band Le Le, and designs a lot of cool stuff. Some fine examples of his work include the logo for my website, an album cover of mine as well as some more logos. I think his work is great and you can check out the show he has opening in Paris at The Lazy Dog on December 5th. Yayurrrr….

LE LE - BREAKFAST

PARRA AND PASE TALK ABOUT STUFF…

PASE: Yo Pieter What’s up?

PARRA: all good, working at home today… have to draw a cover for a highbrow interlectual magazine with the theme ‘the future’ its buggin me out…

PASE: Word, How’s life?

PARRA: alright i believe, do feel like living in a place where its a bit warmer and lighter, f*#king winter in Amsterdam

PASE: Yikes! So tell us Parra, Why do you design for so many shi**y brands (like Pase Rock or crappy ass Nike) when you have your own (Rockwell) that’s really great?

PARRA: because I’m addicted to attention…

PASE: Me too. So when are we going to launch Rockwell US?

PARRA: Let’s go!…oh wait no, I dont think the US wants to…

PASE: Yes, we do. We got Obama now. CHANGE SON! Me and You, or more correctly, You and I (no homo) just tore up Tokyo. let’s talk about that. Some people might find it interesting… although we ended up at the same bar it seemed every night at 5 am…

PARRA: Yeah, f#*king good. remember the deep techno theme they had going that one night, the bardude wasn’t too phased by us by the way…

PASE: Uh huh, true true. How much better is Amsterdam? how come every time I’m in Amsterdam you are somewhere else?

PARRA: I have a sort of agent who scans myspace all day and warns me when trouble comes to town then quickly puts me on the Rockwell plane and flies me to Monaco…. He’s also a pilot yes… Gary Numan is ill… We need a new nice underground club in Amsterdam…plus they should stop the smoking ban in bars, smoking outside in winter is a douche thing to be doing…

PASE: I vehemently disagree. But I digress… You used to skate pro, what happened dude? You fell off son…

PARRA: haha..yeah i didn’t get that much attention anymore cause i got older and my tricks became lame… so i thought I would give art a go…or music…whatever gets me some love haha…

PASE: I feel that. I may quit rapping soon and just become a blogger like Perez Hilton. I can’t figure out if that’s an upgrade or a downgrade though, any shout outs?

PARRA: Gary Numan…

PASE: word. bye!

The great homie Yone had his debut solo show “Tokyo Amour” at Barry Friedman Ltd. open this week in Chelsea. If you are in New York City stop by and check it out until December 20. His book of the same name also just hit shelves in the US so go pick that up too. I met Yone when I was in Tokyo this past September. I was seeking his assistance to help with the video for my new single coming out in early 2009. Not only did he give me all the help I needed with the project, he ended up shooting stills and co-directing the whole thing. The pic up there on the left with the Pase Rock.com logo is from the shoot. Be on the lookout for more Pase Rock x Yone collaborations coming up in the near future. I got one of those little Cheki cameras while I was in Japan. Now I’m continuing my obsession with photography thanks to Yone and this blog of mine. I added a little gallery section so you can see more of his work and make sure you check out his website CexWork. It’s also linked in the friends section. Click the “more” link for his official bio taken from the Barry Friedman site:

Salustiano. My favorite painter right now hands down. Salustiano is a Spanish painter (you know, from SPAIN) Murdering the painting and drawing game. I’m not just saying that because most of his paintings would match my vintage Coca-Cola fridge either. His use of negative space appeals to my sensibilities and taste. His figures have a nice subtlety to them that really adds to the humanity in the work itself. I hope I am describing my feelings about it properly. Anyway I really like the way he lights the figures as well. I hate when dudes/dudettes talk too much about art. You know what I mean. It’s mostly art people too. They just talk too fu@*ing much. “Oh it really draws on his abstract interpretation of Pollack but transmodified into a simpler modernist Warhol-like approach blah blah blah…” name dropping famous artists to make it sound like they know what they are talking about.  STFU already, just enjoy the paintings. But yeah dude is all kinds of awesome. check him out.

MY FAVORITE BUILDING IN THE WORLD…
Posted in Art and thangs. Currently No Comments.

is in my hometown. I’m here in Cincinnati visiting family and VOTING. I always stop by the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art whenever I’m home. I was honored to be the DJ for the opening of the building back in 2003. The architect of the museum, Zaha Hadid came through super regal in a black dress with a long flowing train. KILLING IT! Later on, in 2005, I curated an exhibit here called “TEN.” The concept was to feature ten artists that I considered at the forefront of contemporary art, and the exhibit ran for ten days. I’ll do a post about that in the weeks to come once I dig up the pictures and whatnot. Anyway enough talking here’s some pics. Whenever you find yourself in Cincinnati make sure to stop by. They usually have some interesting exhibits but no permanent collection.
